Fine Art
Fine Art has a strong tradition at Caterham. The four teachers, supported by a full time and two part time technicians, offer a broad range of expertise within Art. Pupils in the first three years cover a range of skills, media and approaches all underpinned by drawing and the study of the work of artists, both contemporary and historical.
Historically, Caterham has been particularly strong in ceramics and printmaking as well as the more usual drawing and painting. It also offers pupils the chance to learn about Textiles and Photography. At the end of their third year, about 40% of students opt to continue their study of Fine Art to GCSE. After this, again about 40% opt to continue their study of Fine Art to AS Level, with the majority continuing to A2. The experience of GCSE Fine Art also gives students a good grounding to begin to study either Photography or Textiles at A Level.
